Hoffman Composting is a local business owned and operated by Joe Hoffman. Its facility is located just outside of Johnson City in Washington County, Tennessee. It is a fully permitted Tier II Composting Facility.

Sustainable Practices ...

Energy: This Aerated Static Pile (ASP) facility is powered by solar panels installed by local company Greene Tech Renewable Energy.
Water: 100% of the leachate is recycled into the process. 0% of the leachate is released to the environment. Municipal water is not used in the process. Harvested rainwater is used.

About Joe Hoffman ...

I got my start in sustainable agriculture over twenty-five years ago and received a degree in Agronomy - International Agriculture and Natural Resources in 1994 from the University of Wisconsin. Since 1992, I have worked with and learned from farmers and researchers in Tennessee, Wisconsin, Mexico, and Ecuador.  
Whether you are a small-scale farmer eking out a living on marginal cropland in a developing area or a state-of-the-art large-scale producer in the United States, you want to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.
The same is true for waste management systems. Influenced by those necessities and a fascination with the intricacies of microbiological processes, I was drawn to composting as a way for our communities to get the most out of their physical and economic resources.

Hoffman Composting is located just outside of Johnson City in Washington County, Tennessee. Our collection service area includes most of Johnson City and Jonesborough.
